Stillness in the dewy quiet, once covered by boundless button grass moorlands. Soils and rich and compact.
Stinging nettles invade and irritate. A forever itch and discomfort on the white- skinned thieves.
This experimental work ‘Ten days of Mourning’, photographic stills 2022 was a durational recording, that included the gathering of stinging nettle (Urticaceae) and the creation of a nettle wreath. The project coincided with the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022. The work explores the discomfort and itch on the skin through the making, reminding, and disrupting of colonial narratives. The work included hyper pigments of bright green nontoxic inks, representing hyper-colonial, leeching - leaving a stain on the environments it consumes.
