I can feel your grain,
the splinters,
that you leave under my skin.
Your particles,
between my toes and under my nails.
I bury myself in your memory.
Your soil turns to
muddy marks
as I take each step.
Footprints retrace
the memories of layers deep
dragging your whispers,
your silence and your tears.
Deakin Ph.D. Candidate, creative producer, and artist Tania Blackwell will situate in the dining room of the Altona Homestead once a month to research, record, and create artifacts for a table installation. The work aims to extract memories by exploring matter, place, and history.
Drawing on materials in the Homestead; the textures and sounds, along with conversations, the artist will stitch words into the table setting as a method of nostalgic and provocative storytelling.
Exploring deep layers of time, from the walls to the carpet through to the floorboards, the soil beneath, and everything in between.
